John Walker & Sons XR21 continues to lead the way to honour great leaders through the launch of its latest platform, the XR 21 Mastery, which is a yearly indulging experience to offer rarity in state-of-the-art craftsmanship of local cuisines in Malaysia.
The platform is created to honour Malaysians who are successful and reputable in their own industries, while also providing opportunities to true leaders of the food and beverage field who intend to bring progression to local cuisines.
“John Walker and Sons XR21 is known to provide intriguing layers of surprising and delightful flavours. Through the XR 21 Mastery platform, we aim to bring whisky and culinary connoisseurs alike onboard to discover the taste of rarity in the craftsmanship of local cuisines and offer surprising insights not just about the whisky, but also the ingredients used in crafting the perfect dish to pair with,” comments Rajesh Joshi, Marketing Director of Moët Hennessy Diageo Malaysia, Diageo Brands.
Chefs that are selected to be part of XR 21 Mastery will showcase their skills in amplifying and revolutionising the flavours of the local cuisines made from homegrown ingredients, set to take Malaysian cuisines to a whole new gastronomical level.
This year, the experience dives into the culture of Penang delicacies and homegrown ingredients, illustrating craftsmanship through a menu that is specially curated by Chef Spider Kong, chef and owner of private, Soul Food in Penang, and Chef Jeffrey, the Head Pastry Chef at Metisser Dessert Parlour in Penang.
“In highlighting the craftsmanship of the John Walker & Sons XR21 and its surprising and delightful taste, I was honoured to be able to create a dynamic set of local Penang cuisines featuring various local ingredients such as tamarinds, preserved soy beans and more, to pair with John Walker and Sons XR 21. The selection consists of the Tiger Prawn Kerabu, Chicken Ravioli, then followed by a choice of Seared Barramundi or Tamarind Lamb,” explains Chef Spider Kong.
In the meantime, Chef Jeffrey brought to the table a delightful dessert, the Ambar Tree. The dessert features the locally-famed Amra fruit, which can only be cultivated along the equator line and is commonly produced into juice, pickles or used in salads in Penang due to its versatility in flavour and high nutritional values.
Exclusive to Asia, John Walker and Sons XR21 is a tribute to the British knighthood awarded to John Walker’s grandson, Sir Alexander Walker in 1920. It was created to honour a very special occasion whereby Sir Alexander Walker was appointed as a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire by King George V in 1920, commemorating his outstanding leadership and service to his king and country. It contains whiskies that are aged for a minimum of 21 years and drawn from extremely rare Johnnie Walker reserves.
