IDC Asia Pacific announced Malaysia’s Sunway Township as one of the winners of Smart City Asia Pacific Awards 2017 under the Smart Building Category. Best known for their integrated smart and low carbon township across the Asia Pacific region excluding Japan.
A total of 46 smart city projects were listed with over 150 submissions from vendors, local government and analysts. To date, Sunway City has a gross development value worth of RM 11 billion development dovetailed with the development of Malaysia’s first elevated Bus Rapid Transit – Sunway Line. This project is Malaysia’s first-ever integrated township; initiatives included the retrofit of older buildings, construction of a water treatment plant, and upgrade of transit systems including the elevated Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), which efficiently connects Sunway City to the rest of the country.
The Smart City Asia Pacific Awards was created to identify, benchmark and publicly vote on the best projects each year across 14 functional smart city strategic domains. It is an intensive six-month process that tracks and evaluates hundreds of smart city initiatives in Asia Pacific.
