Wine & Dine: Soaking Up The Ambience

A great atmosphere sets the mood for a memorable dining experience

Early this year, 7atenine unveiled its newly revamped look after a RM1 million investment. After its glitzy launch, we were invited back to savour the food and surrounding minus all the fanfare.

The gastro-lounge claims to offer a complete dining, wining and socialising experience, and we do agree. The revamped outlet is simply chic and has a very contemporary and updated look.

With various new, unique and unparalleled features by international designer Ed Poole, 7atenine now boasts enhanced aesthetics, practicality and functionality giving birth to a more chic, stylish and sexy ambience. These features are impressive and unprecedented, and some fashioned after world famous and landmark décor.

Something that truly caught our eyes and proved to be quite a conversation piece was a unique feature of the outlet called, guess what … the Big Ass Fan, and we kid you not. A little bit about the Fan – it was originally invented to stabilise and maintain the temperature inside the barns of Kentucky’s dairy industry in the USA. This innovative design is highly efficient in removing hotspots and enhancing air flow, which evens out temperatures in a large area.

In 7atenine, the uniquely large fan, measuring 4.3m in diameter, is one of the green initiatives taken by the proprietor to reduce the need for more air conditioning and the number of cooling fans used – an innovative way to be cost efficient and environment friendly.

Talking about conversation pieces, ours revolved around the fact that the fan looks ready to chop or drop off on unsuspecting diners, especially tall ones. Mind you, I find my fellow colleague rather tall and dining at the upper level of the outlet does make you worry a little, but no incidences reported thus far.

More on aesthetics

Enough about morbidity, especially in a place trendy enough to dine and hang out.

If you are one to enjoy your drink while also soaking in the atmosphere, the Champagne Pillar is where you want to be seated at. Feast your eyes on a pillar of dazzling display of Moet & Chandon champagnes right at the centre of the bar, as you sip your choice beverage. The pillar rises right up to the mezzanine floor.

In fact, the bar is no longer a lonely place to drown your sorrows at since in 7atenine it is a place that promotes interaction among patrons. It replaces the traditional bar counters where patrons sit with their backs to the room, a very anti-social stance.

Also, the Barclay Bar incorporates an innovative technology for wine preservation. If you do not already know, the technology is called “Le Verre de Vin”, which keeps the contents of wines and champagnes fresh and sparkling for up to 21 days. This has made it possible for the outlet to extend the offering of its premium labels to patrons who can now enjoy a wider selection by the glass.

Yes, the ambience of 7atenine does warrant all that talk about it, though we are not saying the culinary prowess here are something to overlook.

Gastronomy adventure

Boosting a cosmopolitan cuisine, the wide selection of beverages certainly complements the choice of food fare here. The chefs at 7atenine has concocted a variety of dishes and also giving a contemporary twist on many dishes. The same can be said for its creative bartenders too.

For our culinary adventure, we were recommended the Calamari Rings, 789 platter with a nice combination of braised lamb shank, ginger poached chicken and charbroiled tiger prawn, Kakiage (deep fried onion, carrot and prawn in tempura batter with sambal mayo), pumpkin chowder, as well as the more traditional beef rending. For desserts, we fancied upon some sticky rice mango and also a plantain brûlée – truly yummy.

A nice medley of taste, the 7atenine does have some mouthwatering fares to boost and we were allowed to sample the great variation 7atenine has. However, we must emphasis the ambience is what will blow you away here at 7atenine.
